Programme for 2021

We have planned a programme on Zoom for the first few months of 2021, after which we are really hoping to meet in person.   Meetings are on the first Thursday of the month, starting at 7.15pm

Thursday Jan 7  Our favourite art historian Julia Heckles returns to tell us about the lovely landscapes and early influences of painter Samuel Palmer

Thursday February 4 Why do we love our pets so much? Jacky Colliss Harvey helps us understand humans keep pets, with anecdotes and wisdom from her well-reviewed book 'The Animals' Companion'

Thursday March 4  Surrey TV weatherman Ian Currie on clouds and what they tell us about predicting the weather

Thursday April 1 A chance to try face yoga with Alexandria Dudley-Smith - it feels good, and expect some gurning and giggling.  Rejuvenate your face muscles with a system pioneered by legendary beauty expert Eve Lom

Thursday May 6 Local historian Sue Demont on the remarkable unsung pioneer Mrs Caroline Ganley, who became MP for Battersea South in 1945

Thursday June 3 If possible, this will probably be a members' social - sign up for our email newsletter to find out more

Recent trips

We've been to the Clink restaurant in HMP Brixton for lunch, to the special exhibition at Strawberry Hill House, had a tour of the Royal Hospital with a real Chelsea pensioner, been to the Mayfield Lavender Farm, and to the recycling centre at Smugglers Way.  Just before Christmas we went to Dennis Severs' house in Spitalfields for an atmospheric experience. Our first trip ever was to the little-known National Opera Studio - in Chapel Yard right on the Wandsworth one-way where we heard trainee singers.

Upcoming trips

We hope to get to Eltham Palace and Fenton House in Hampstead later in 2021 plus possibly go on the Strictly Come Dancing costume tour too.
